Kicking off the season!
Earlier this year Tara Theatre pledged to return to its activist roots and be a catalyst and agent for change, so we are kicking off our season with a fundraising event to help people who are suffering in Afghanistan.
We will be holding an electric evening of live art that will feature performances from a range of artists from different disciplines. All proceeds from Tara Theatre for Afghanistan will go to grassroots charity Women for Afghan Women who are working day and night to provide safe shelter, resources and aid to thousands of Afghans who are in need of it.
Tara Theatre is also thrilled to announce its new artist development initiative…
Constellations seeks to grow the next generation of diverse artists and as part of the initiative we will be holding various different artist development labs and workshops as well as running longer term programmes.
We have two fantastic Constellations events for you to get involved in this Autumn – Cultivate, a series of theatre workshops led by pioneering industry professionals (pay as your feel!), and Change Your Lens, a week long artistic lab that will bring a range of artists from different disciplines together to explore all of the potential approaches to developing material for the stage.
Live Theatre is back!
You’ll be pleased to know that our performance offering is equally as exciting as our artist development programme!
In October we’ll be welcoming our friends from Kali Theatre into our space for their HOME Plays: a week of six new cutting-edge, script-in-hand plays exploring, challenging and reimagining our idea of ‘home’, and from December Tara Theatre will be inviting you to feast with us as we celebrate 50 years of Bangladesh with our brand new production Dawaat.
Through the exploration of contrasting narratives and by working closely with Bangladeshi diaspora communities in London, Dawaat is an immersive piece of theatre that will explore what it means to be of Bangladeshi heritage in the UK today. Driven by the sharing of food, poetry, live music, spoken word and contemporary South Asian dance, Dawaat will flood the senses and shift perspectives. This is one not to be missed so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment!
And there’s more…
As well as these fantastic shows, workshops and events we will also be hosting some of the funniest comedians and most impressive musicians around as part of our Embrace the Space season, so keep your keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
We can’t wait to see you at Tara Theatre again this Autumn – with so much on there really is something for everyone so get yourself down here and embrace the space!
