Tara Film Club proudly present Bend It Like Beckham, directed by Gurinder Chadha

Jess Bhamra, the daughter of a strict Indian couple in London, is not permitted to play professional football, even though she is 18. When Jess is playing for fun one day, her impressive skills are seen by Jules Paxton, who then convinces Jess to play for her semi-pro team. Jess uses elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while also dealing with her romantic feelings for her coach, Joe.

Tara Film Club is a weekly screening at Tara Theatre showcasing the very best of South Asian and Global Cinema. It’s a project the whole Tara Theatre team are thrilled to share with our community.

Our Tara Film Club is a relaxed, informal space to bring a film loving community together to appreciate classic movies as well as the latest in innovative, groundbreaking and political contemporary cinema. Come to our building, tuck into our wide range of specialty popcorn, and meet like-minded individuals, all whilst enjoying industry leading cinema in our stunning, intimate theatre space.

After every screening, please feel welcome to stay and chat afterwards. There will also be options to review each screening and suggest films for future programming.

Tara Film Club are delighted to offer Babes in Arms screenings exclusively for parents and babies under 2 years old at 11:00AM on Wednesday mornings. Light and sound levels are optimised for the benefit of the babies. No baby, no entry.
