FAQ: Tara Theatre’s brand new seed commission NOVA

We are so proud to have launched our newest pilot scheme, NOVA, our seed commission for writers of South Asian heritage or connections, we wanted to tell you more about it! Check out our FAQs below.

Applications for NOVA close at the beginning of June, but there’s still time to apply for the deadline on Wed 1 June! Here’s a bit more about the commission:

What is NOVA?

NOVA is Tara Theatre’s seed commission for writers of South Asian heritage or connections. Through NOVA, we aim to expand the canon of South Asian voices and uncover stories of how contemporary narratives around current themes affect our communities.

Who can apply to NOVA?

Writers (18+) of all stages who are of South Asian heritage or have South Asian connections from across the UK can apply to NOVA. This round of seed commissions will be supporting projects that explore the key themes of  Tara Theatre’s future seasons.

What are we looking for in NOVA applications?

NOVA seed commissions will be supporting projects that explore the key themes of Tara Theatre’s future seasons.
It can be original, an adaptation or a revival.
There are some Qs in the NOVA application form so we can get to know your work & you. You can fill it in or upload a video answering them. All info and application can be found in the link in our bio.

What themes is NOVA focusing on?

This round of seed commissions will be supporting projects that explore the key themes of Tara Theatre’s future seasons.

Seasons include:

– ClimateEmergency
– Brexit (borders, boundaries, walls…etc)
– Automation (AI, technology, virtual reality…etc)

What support do writers get from NOVA?

A small pot of money with support on how to budget/ use it effectively for the best way to develop your idea or script.
Dramaturgical support from our in-house Artistic team.
Space in-kind to R&D/ workshop/write.
Networking, sharing and producing opportunities.
