Tara Theatre’s Seed Commissions
What is it?
A commission for writers of South Asian heritage or connections offered by Tara Theatre to submit and explore ideas inspired by the THEMES of Tara Theatre’s future seasons.
Some themes for our future seasons include:
Climate Emergency (displacement, global warming, politics…)
Brexit ( borders, boundaries, dividing lines… )
Automation (A.I, technology , virtual vs the reality…)
How does it work?
A window will open for submissions for writers to send us their work.
The writers can submit their work in the form of either:
- A synopsis
- A pitch
- A sample script extract ( no more than 10 pages long)
Along with some thoughts around the following questions:
Q1. Tell us about yourself. Please briefly include information about your background and your location.
Q2. Why is this work important now?
Q3. Why do you want to work with Tara Theatre to develop your work?
These can be sent to us written (1 A4 page maximum) or videoed (3 minutes maximum).
The ideas can be original ideas as well as adaptations or revivals.
What is our offer?
- A budget with support on how to use it effectively
- Dramaturgical support from our in-house Artistic team.
- Space in-kind to R&D/ workshop/write.
- Networking, sharing and producing opportunities.
We are excited to pilot our seed commission program this year at Tara Theatre. Due to our current limitations with funding, we aim to use our resources in the best way possible to support writers.
We currently only have the capacity to develop work in line with our future seasons.

The window for submissions will open on 1 May, 2022 at 10am and close on 1 June, 2022 at 11:59pm.
