I began filmmaking as a teenager and dreamed of being an Asian Edgar Wright. Then I hit my late thirties, became a dad, and realised “that dream is over” so I turned to open mic comedy instead. I had a teeny amount of directing success, a stint at BBC Comedy, few awards on the short film circuit, 30+ million views on TikTok, but for whatever reason never made it. Maybe I wasn’t talented, lucky, white, or nepo-baby enough, who knows? Who cares. I’ve got stand-up now and am loving it. And maybe one day, I’ll get paid for it too.”
