Jasmine Qureshi

Jasmine Isa Qureshi (they/she) is a storyteller. A marine biologist, Ambassador for bees, brown people and biomes (officially for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust), a researcher and freelance film-maker (working on projects for and with BBC Natural History Unit, Netflix, and Sound Off Films), and a presenter on CBeebies, she has been a naturalist and nature-nut ever since she could walk.

As a speaker and weaver of words, she has worked as a journalist – writing for BBC Wildlife Magazine, Gaytimes, Gal-Dem and many more, covering wildlife conservation, ecology and natural history, to queer theory, feminism, sexuality and trans rights, and spoken on all of these subjects for science festivals, wildlife film-festivals, and many more.

They seek to expand the minds and perspectives of people and society in terms of how we learn and teach about ecology and off of that wider issues and subjects, recently founding Queer Rootz, an organisation/community dissecting and discussing the concepts of queer ecology, unlearning binary bias and centring queer/trans POC in the natural history arena.

As a poet and mentor she works with Writing Our Legacy to teach and hold a space for marginalised voices in creative and nature writing, and has performed at the Natural History Museum of London, Mehfil Arts Centre, and worked with conservation orgs from the RSPB, the Wildlife Trusts, BCT, spoken to drag queens about clownfish, and modelled for Attitude magazine. Oh, and I’m writing a book…
