NOVA: Table Reads

A Night of New Writing by South Asian Writers

Join us for the NOVA: Table Reads, a night of new writing from South Asian voices, exploring the key themes of Tara Theatre’s future seasons.
This event will be BSL Interpreted.

NOVA is Tara Theatre’s seed commission for writers of South Asian heritage and connections. We are showcasing the fruits of this year’s seed commissions, as we expand the canon of South Asian voices and uncover stories of how contemporary narratives around current themes affect our communities. These original works offer an exciting glimpse into the future of South Asian theatre.

The NOVA: Table Reads is a rare opportunity to experience the diversity and richness of stories, and to witness the growth of new and exciting voices in British theatre. The pieces will be performed by professional actors, directed by Milli Bhatia.

The showcase will features the following pieces:

Turning Tides by Romo Sikdar-Rahman

Turning Tides is the story of connection across the world and through the years: the ties that bind our struggles together, the impact seemingly small decisions can have across time, and a question of what power any of us have to make change.

I dream of Theresa May by Vivek Nityananda

In 2013, Chandra, a gay Indian man living in London, is desperate to find a way to stay on in the UK. He finds an unlikely mentor when his nemesis, Theresa May, appears at his flat with an offer of help – if he meets her standards.

Worlds Collide by Bushra Laskar

Things are going great for Misbah – good job, lovely boyfriend, confidence on the rise. But then her ex bff Amelie shows up and makes Misbah question everything, including the unusual object that’s appeared in her kitchen. What is it? What does it want? And how does it keep displaying those disconcerting images in their heads? Worlds Collide is a sci-fi adventure about two lonely women, one alien encounter and all the ways we miscommunicate.
