Shaheen Khan
Shaheen Khan is a British South Asian actor/writer whose career spans nearly five decades across screen, stage, radio, and voice over. She was a pioneering member of Tara Arts.
Her writing for Radio 4, co-created with Sudha Bhuchar, includes Girlies, an adaptation of Mulk Raj Anand’s Untouchable and Balti Kings, an adaptation of their stage play.
Shaheen has narrated over 30 audiobooks, including The Mahābhārata, Azadi, The West: A New History of an Old Idea, and Arundhati Roy’s Mother Mary Comes To Me for BBC Radio 4 due for broadcast in early September.
Her film work includes Bhaji on the Beach, Bend It Like Beckham (nominated for the Golden Satellite Award), Tomorrow Never Dies, and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.
Stage credits include Midnight’s Children (RSC) and Rafta Rafta (The National Theatre).
Television credits include the Bafta winning The Boy with the Topknot, Britz, and My Life as Popat. Others include Doctor Who, Spooks, Love Match and Sister Wife. She won the Asian Woman of Achievement Award and the UKAFF Silver Flame Award.
