This is an exciting opportunity to join the Board of one of the UK’s leading voices for South Asian artists and stories, and to contribute your expertise at a pivotal moment in Tara Theatre’s development.
We’re looking to appoint two new Trustees who can bring specialist insight in areas including finance, income generation, creative producing and sector leadership. These roles will suit individuals who enjoy thinking strategically, contributing to governance and working collaboratively to support an ambitious arts organisation.
As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2027, we are entering a significant period of strategic planning, growth and celebration. As the oldest Global Majority-led theatre company in the UK, Tara remains committed to its activist roots, producing bold theatre and working towards a more equitable cultural landscape for historically underrepresented artists and audiences. We are seeking trustees who share our mission and values, and who are excited by the opportunity to strengthen our Board through their professional experience and networks.
As valued and long-standing trustees step down, these appointments will play an important role in maintaining strong governance and helping to guide the organisation’s next phase of development. Trustees are collectively responsible for ensuring Tara Theatre fulfils its charitable objectives, providing strategic oversight and constructive challenge to the executive leadership, and advocating for Tara’s work within the wider cultural and funding landscape.
We actively encourage applications from individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, and particularly welcome those who share our commitment to supporting South Asian and Global Majority artists, stories and leadership within the UK cultural sector.
This is a voluntary, unremunerated role with reasonable expenses covered. Trustees attend four Board meetings per year, usually in the early evening with hybrid options available, and may also contribute to a Board sub-committee focused on finance or strategic development. Additional engagement may include attending events or supporting key strategic initiatives. The overall time commitment is typically around 1–2 days per month.
