Sanjay Lago

Sanjay Lago is a 4th generation Glasgow Born Punjabi Actor, Writer, Comedian and Facilitator. He trained at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has been working in the industry for over 14 years now. He is passionate about diversity in the arts, mental health and amplifying minority voices. He has worked with theatre companies across the UK, including Soho Theatre, Tamasha, National Theatre of Scotland, Magnetic North and Imaginate to name a few.

His plays have been longlisted for various awards in Scotland and UK Wide, these being: His play “Jalebi” which he wrote whilst on the Soho Theatre Writer’s Lab, was longlisted for the Tony Craze Playwrighting Award in 2021. His play “Khab Jertigi” which he wrote as a short for the Young Vic in London, he developed to a full play and was longlisted for the David MacLennan Playwrighting Award at Play Pie and Pint in 2024. His happiest achievement was recieving the John Mather Trust Rising Star of Scotland award with National Theatre of Scotland where he developed his semi autobiographical play “Floating Along Silently”, all about male mental health, grief and south Asian cultures. After a work in progress at NTS, he was commissioned to share a new version I. 2024 at the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.

He is so excited to be making his Fringe Debut with his one man play “Love Me Like A Chai Tea Latte”, for which he won an Emerging Talent Award at the Neurodiverse Review Fringe Awards 2024 and made his west end debut in early 2025 as part of the Soho Rising festival at Soho Theatre. He is so excited to finally be performing his work in Scotland, his home.

When Sanjay isn’t performing or writing he is studying on his part time Masters in Education. Or can be found with his head stuck in the pages of a book, listening to Shakira, wandering in nature or glued to an episode(s) of Doctor Who.
