Mark Godfrey

Trustee

Mark Godfrey is Executive Director/CEO of Soho Theatre, which he has helped grow over more than three decades from a small fringe company into a major cultural organisation. Soho Theatre now operates as a charitably owned social enterprise across two London venues with international and talent development programmes, creating jobs and opportunity, and great nights out for audiences of 400,000 annually. He led the project to open Soho Theatre Walthamstow – a 960-seat former cinema restored through a £50m capital project, named Theatre Building of the Year at The Stage Awards 2026.  Mark has expertise and passion for building sustainable and inclusive business models to enable creative risk and widen access. He established Soho’s comedy programme and its India/South Asia strand, which has supported many debuts and landmark moments for South Asian artists and has been recognised with an Asian Media Award.  His previous board roles include DV8 Physical Theatre, Talawa Theatre, Oval House (now Brixton House) and Synergy Theatre Project.
